At Heartland Timber, your furniture doesn’t start in a lumber yard — it starts with a tree. We mill our own lumber on our Wood-Mizer LT40 HD sawmill and kiln-dry it in-house to a target moisture of 8–10%, then turn it into custom furniture and home finishes built to fit your space and style. That start-to-finish control is how we make pieces that last for generations — and as a proud member of the Urban Wood Network, much of our wood comes from trees that might otherwise have been destroyed, given a second life in your home.
From stair treads and risers to dining tables, bartops, and floating shelves, everything below is made to order. Tell us what you’re picturing, and we’ll build it around your dimensions, your wood, and your finish.

Stair Treads & Risers
Give your staircase the same hardwood character as the rest of your home, with treads and risers milled from real, kiln-dried hardwood — including Black Walnut, White Oak, Hickory, and Maple.

Good to know: Treads and risers are always sold unfinished, and they are supply-only — we mill them to spec, and you or your installer handles finishing and installation.
Dining Tables & Bartops
The McGee/Allely Project →
A dining table or bartop built around your room — not the other way around. Each one is fully customized to your dimensions, with multiple epoxy fill colors available if your slab has character you’d like to highlight rather than hide. Choose an oil based finish or an epoxy flood coat finish, and we’ll take it from there. Delivery is available.
Restaurant and Cafe Tables
Custom tables built for daily commercial use, fully customized to your dimensions so your seating layout works exactly the way you need it to. Choose from many leg styles to match your space, add epoxy fill in multiple available colors, and finish with either an oil based finish or an epoxy flood coat finish. Delivery is available for restaurant and cafe orders, too.
Delivery is available within a 2-hour radius of Granger, IA (50109); a delivery fee applies.
Small Tables & Benches
Side tables, coffee tables, entry benches, and more — fully customized to your dimensions, with many leg styles to choose from and multiple epoxy fill colors available. Each piece is finished with oil-based lacquer for a durable, ready-to-use surface.
Floating Shelves & Mantles
Floating Shelves
Floating shelves with your choice of a live edge or square front, in multiple wood species and various widths and depths. Our shelves average 1-3/4” thick — substantial enough to show off the grain and hold real weight in a kitchen, living room, or office.
Mantles
Mantles with a live edge or square front, in multiple wood species and various widths and depths, typically 3” or thicker for that solid, anchor-the-room presence. Every mantle includes brackets and hanging screws, so you have what you need to hang it.
Good to know: Shelves and mantles are supply-only — brackets and hanging screws are included with mantles, and installation is up to you or your installer.
How a Custom Project Works
Step 1 — Tell us about your project: use the Get In Touch form below, pick your interest (Stair Treads/Risers, Dining Table/Bartop, Cafe/Coffee Table, Mantle/Floating Shelf, or Wall Hanging), your wood type (Black Walnut, White Oak, Hickory, or Maple), your preferred completion date, and describe your project.
Step 2 — Get your quote: we will reply within 48 hours.
Step 3 — We build it: milled from our own kiln-dried lumber, with a typical lead time of about 4 weeks.
Step 4 — Delivery or pickup: pick up in Granger, or delivery within a 2-hour radius of 50109 for a fee.
